20 Year Anniversary!

As I write this to you, it is November 10, 2025. That’s a special date in my mind, because it was 20 years ago this day that we hosted our very first workshop in Nashville under the Roaring Lambs/Briner umbrella.

Through the largess of Vice Chancellor at Vanderbilt University Harry Jacobson, it was a gathering place for all kinds of “Christian creatives” who wanted to make the world a better place. Two years later, we incorporated as a 501c3 in the state of Tennessee under the name of The Briner Institute. Over the years, we have had several other workshops and initiatives aimed at that very same audience, and we have more to come. We are constantly trying to find the balance between serving as “mentors” and providing opportunities for “young, creative Christians”.

2025 gave us several opportunities to do both:

Promised Land Project: At the end of last yer, we were able to set up a giving program for a wonderful new comedy series running on YouTube called The Promised Land. The pilot episode released last July and Season 1 launched October 1st with the release of episode 2. Season 1 and its marketing efforts have reached over 86 million users, generated 80.2 million views, and garnered an audience of over 786,000 followers on social media platforms. By giving through the Briner Institute, fans of the program have donated more than $10,000 in 2025 towards The Promised Land!

Class at Belmont: the class I started at Belmont in 2000, after Bob Briner’s death, still continues under the leadership of James Tealy. I had an opportunity to speak to the Christianity in the Entertainment Industry class in October and I told my personal story with Bob Briner and how the book has affected my life.

Film Makers Roundtable: In September, the Briner Institute sponsored a group of film makers at Franklin Social for cigars and a conversation around what it means to make faith film content in society today. We all enjoyed asking each other questions that are not typically asked in business environments because these guys have very few people they can confide in. This was a highlight for me in 2025, and we will be doing it again.

Award Winning Roaring Lamb: In the April 2024 edition of our newsletter, I told you about a young lady named Alexa Campbell. Here’s her background. Recently, I had the chance to catch up with Alexa at lunch to discuss a new project she wants to make on the women in country music. It is ambitious and yet wonderful and I’m trying now to connect her to companies and potential funding to see if we can get it to the next step. I believe she’s going to do it! Pray for Alexa and her projects!

Working with projects and young people like this, gives me deep motivation to keep connecting the two. I am praying every day for more support and resources to help mentor these students and help develop their projects. At the Briner Institute, we are trying to give these kids an opportunity in the world of entertainment that might not only lead to their success, but their proclamation that Jesus is the Answer for the world today. There are more creative projects like The Promised Land and there are more creative young Roaring Lambs like Alexa Campbell. The world needs all the light it can get. As Bob Briner once told me, “Barry, the culture doesn’t need salt. The culture needs massive amounts of salt!” Please pray about giving a gift to help us in our mission.
