Last fall it was a thrill to see so many people help The Briner Institute secure the RoaringLambs(.com) website together with accompanying legal and administrative fees by raising $4,500!  We now control that website and will be sending you more information about how we plan to roll that out in the very near future.  Please send us any ideas you think we should consider!

Roaring Lambs Book Rights Acquired

Thanks to the Briner Family and Zondervan Publishing, in December we were able to finalize acquiring the rights to Briner’s Roaring Lambs book/manuscript and we are now in discussion with publishing experts on the best way to edit the book for a fresh release later this year.  

College Classes Can’t Get the Book

Due to our acquisition, all Roaring Lambs books are out of print, but did you know there are two college classes teaching the Roaring Lambs principles?  Belmont University in Nashville and Samford University in Birmingham both have a class this Spring 2024.  The Belmont class is taught by James Tealy and Samford’s class is being taught by James Hodgin, both residents of Nashville.  Says Tealy, “I remember well the depth of impact the book had on me when it was first published, and I’ve given copies away to colleagues over the years. Now I sit in a classroom with a dozen students who have been drawn to the course by a sneaking suspicion that their culture-shaping work in the entertainment industry might actually be a sacred calling.” James Hodgin from Stanford told me this, “I asked my class today if they felt like the principles in Roaring Lambs were truly universal, and they all agreed that the core of what’s being taught is something that everybody should learn. My own daughter takes the class and she said that everyone in a Christian college should study Roaring Lambs in a university setting to prepare for their lives ahead.”

All this presented me with a problem: the Roaring Lambs books are now out of print and the only copies available are individual listings on Amazon.  I just spent $250 buying up 30 books, and they weren’t even new—they are tattered in some instances.  But they are the only copies I can provide to these classes so they can read the text and study the group questions.

Keeping this work alive is the driving force behind The Briner Institute!  Yes, we are going to have the book revised and reprinted, but that takes time.   In the meantime, would you consider helping me buy some Roaring Lambs books for these classes that meet every semester?  As I say, we also need to get the original book revised and reprinted, so any amount you give us now will go 100% towards keeping the Roaring Lambs books in circulation!  Here’s how you can help:

• A gift of $250 allows us to buy 30 books off the internet via Amazon for one class for one semester.  We need at least 10 people to check this box to sustain these classes in 2024 and through 2025.

• A gift of $125 will get us halfway there and we can put your gift with another to get enough for a class.

• A gift of $500-$5,000 will go towards the editing and printing process of getting the new book done.  We will apply larger gifts to hiring writers, editors, and graphic artists to refresh this legendary book and update it with contemporary examples of “salt and light” in popular culture.
